Oldest rock-cut caves in India.
Barabar Caves are the oldest surviving rock-cut caves in India, located in Jehanabad district, Bihar. Dating back to the Mauryan period (3rd century BCE), they were built during the reign of Emperor Ashoka. Famous for their highly polished granite interiors, the caves were used by Ajivika monks and are an important example of ancient Indian rock-cut architecture and engineering skill.
